Email setup

Email setup is where you set up sending marketing email from your own domain. It lives at Email → Setup, on the Sender and domain tab, the first of five: Sender and domain, Brand kit, Link tracking, Blocked and Coupons.

How do I set up a sending domain?

Enter a sending subdomain - something like mail.yourstore.com, not your bare domain.
Choose Set up sending. Kooga gives you the DNS records to add.
Add those records at your DNS provider.
Come back and Verify DNS.

Each record is listed with its type, name, value and current status.

If your DNS is on Cloudflare

Set any CNAME record above to DNS only - the grey cloud, not the orange one. Proxied records break verification.

How long does verification take?

DNS can take up to a few hours to propagate, so a record that is not verified immediately is usually just not visible yet rather than wrong.

If the page says it does not have your DNS records yet, choose Verify DNS and it fetches them.

Can I send before every record verifies?

Yes. Once sending is verified you can send, even if an optional record is still unverified - the page tells you how many remain. Optional records improve deliverability rather than gating it.

Why a subdomain and not my main domain?

Sending from a subdomain keeps your marketing mail's reputation separate from the domain you use for everything else.

What is the track. record for?

One of the records is a CNAME on track.yourstore.com. It is what lets Kooga measure opens and clicks from your domain rather than ours, which is better for both trust and deliverability: the links in your email stay on a hostname your customers recognise.

It is optional. Without it your email still sends, links still work, and everything except open and click tracking behaves normally. With it, you get open and click rates on every campaign, A/B subject tests that can pick a winner, and the ability to re-send a campaign to the people who did not open it.

It can take up to 15 minutes after the record resolves before tracking switches on, because Kooga waits until it has confirmed the hostname actually answers before rewriting any links.

Should I add a DMARC record?

Yes, once your sending domain verifies. DMARC tells mailbox providers what to do with mail that claims to be from you but fails authentication, and providers increasingly expect bulk senders to publish one.

Start in monitor-only mode, which changes nothing about how your mail is handled:

Name: _dmarc.yourstore.com
Type: TXT
Value: v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:dmarc@yourstore.com

Reports arrive at the address you name. After a few weeks with nothing unexpected in them, you can tighten p=none to p=quarantine.

How do I know my email is arriving?

Email → Sending health, on the Deliverability tab, shows the three rates mailbox providers judge you on: bounces, complaints and unsubscribes, each against the limit where providers start refusing your mail. Sending pauses automatically if complaints go above 0.3%, and that page is where you would see it coming.

What is in the brand kit?

How every email looks, set once: your logo, accent colour (buttons and links), text colour, the background behind the email, the colour of the card it sits on, the button shape (rounded, pill or square), the typeface and your postal address for the footer. A block can still set its own colour or shape in the editor; the brand kit is what it uses otherwise.

What's next?

Turn on the flows, or send a broadcast. Your list health is on Email overview.
